THE ART OF
STONE CRAFTING
Our Process
1 - Select Material
California Granite & Stone is currently working towards providing a variety of material available to customers. In the meantime, you can visit Bedrosians, a nationwide slab distributor, where you can find high quality slabs at our wholesaler discount price. California Granite & Stone quotes vary based on stone selection.
2 - Estimate
You can call our office at (831) 245-6200 to schedule an estimate. Once we have a scheduled appointment, one of our employees will go out to the job site to take measurements of the project. It is at this time where customers should also make the decision of what edge finish they would like for their countertops and whether they will be adding backsplash.. For pictures of our different edge finishes, please visit our Edge Selector page. After taking measurements, the square footage will be calculated and it is at this time when a proper quote can be given. Please note we do not provide demolition services, however we can provide references upon request.
3 - Template
Once the quote is approved, we will need to set up another appointment to make templates. Templates are made by cutting dimensionally stable wood outlines to match the configuration of the project. Making templates allows us to cut the stone to exact measurements. Please note, if a sink cutout is needed, we will also need the template that comes with the sink.
4 - Cutting
After making templates, our cutting department will begin cutting. If clients wish to form a certain layout, such as matching veins in the material, it should be done immediately after templates to ensure nothing has yet been cut. We are more than happy to set up an appointment for this step to ensure that our customers receive all the help and attention they need. Our office number is (831) 245-6200.
5 - Fabrication
Once the slab is cut appropriately, the lamination process begins. Our skilled fabricators glue the edge pieces onto the slabs. Next, the edges are shaped into the desired finish. Grinding the edge to perfection takes several hours to do in order to assure shapes are even and smooth. The final step of fabrication, is to polish the entire project.
6 - Installation
One of our employees in the office will contact you to set up an installation date between 7-10 days after templates. This time period can vary depending on project size, complexity, and weather conditions. Prior to the installation date, customers should have 5/8th thick plywood installed by the cabinet maker or yourself. As for the installation process, we ask that no cars be in the driveway so that we have easier access to the entrance. When the pieces are unloaded, they are directly placed on the countertops where they are properly secured. Next, the sink is installed and any sink holes are drilled. Finally, we thoroughly clean the stone and apply sealer if needed.
